Aspen Country Day School

Since its founding in 1969, Aspen Country Day School has served the Roaring Fork Valley’s children. It emphasizes scholarship, citizenship, and respect. All great schools are a work in progress, and we continue to strive to impart these three core values to our students with determination and love.

We are a community of learners of all ages who delight in the discovery and wonder of education and watching the intellectual and social growth in each of us.

Aspen Country Day School is open to all children in the Roaring Fork Valley from pre-kindergarten through middle school. Located at a campus on Castle Creek, it is fully accredited by the National Association of Independent Schools. Country Day is known for its high teacher-student ratio, its strong arts, outdoor education and foreign language programs, and its traditional private-school environment of courtesy and friendship.

A rigorous curriculum emphasizes the importance of individualized learning, giving each student the skills required to fulfill his or her potential. The academic program is traditional and well rounded. Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies are balanced by a complementary curriculum in Music, Art, Drama, and Physical Education. French and Spanish are introduced in the earliest grades, and Latin is offered to older children. Technology is integrated into the daily learning of all students. The Outdoor Education program takes students into the glorious Rocky Mountains for lessons not only in skiing, rock climbing, and route-finding, but also in self-reliance and cooperation.

During the winter, ACDS skips school on Friday afternoons to go skiing. This activity is a great way for the students to bond with teachers and other students that they are put in a small ski group with. This is one of the many benefits that come with attending a small school (small community) with a high student-faculty ratio. Not many schools around the United States have something like this, and it is one of the things that makes ACDS special.

Country Day’s Mission And Philosophy

It is the mission of Aspen Country Day School to foster a culture of learning by which each child reaches his or her highest potential. In an inspiring setting of natural beauty, we offer a rigorous curriculum and individualized education while creating a love of learning, personal growth and responsible citizenship.

— Adopted by the Board of Trustees, 2003

We recently asked children to name the most important things they learn at Country Day. Here are their top two answers:

• Do your best work
• Be a good friend

More about our philosophy: At Aspen Country Day School, we believe that excellence is defined by more than individual talent. It also embodies a joy that comes from self-discipline, an absence of egotism that is derived in working with others to achieve a common goal and a generosity of spirit that is grounded in the dreams of the entire school community.

We believe that we must be aware of the uniqueness of each student, and we are focused on treating that uniqueness with loving concern. We believe in providing our students with opportunities to seek excellence, which are commensurate with their interests and abilities. We encourage our students to develop an “I can, I will” attitude. We hope to motivate our students to go a step beyond what they, their families, or we might expect of them.
